How to Import Book Sources into Legado

Legado (阅读3.0) ships without content. You teach it where to read from by importing a book source. Here are all three ways.

A book source is a small JSON rule file that tells Legado which website to search, how to read book details, and how to extract chapter text. Importing one takes about a minute. If you don't have a source file yet, see the book source setup guide (Chinese) first.

Method A · Network import (most common)

  1. Open Legado, tap My (bottom right)
  2. Go to Book Sources (书源管理)
  3. Tap the ⋯ menu → Network import (网络导入)
  4. Paste the book source URL and confirm
  5. Select the sources you want and tap OK
  6. Make sure the imported sources are toggled on

A book source URL is just a link to a JSON file. Quick sanity check: open it in your phone browser first — if you see a wall of code, the link is alive.

Method B · QR code import

  1. Book Sources → ⋯ → QR code import (扫码导入)
  2. Scan the shared QR code — it encodes the same URL

Method C · Local import

  1. Download the source file (.json or .txt) to your phone
  2. Book Sources → ⋯ → Local import (本地导入) → pick the file

If a .json file refuses to import, rename the extension to .txt and try again.

After importing: two things worth doing

1. Turn off auto-refresh (My → Other settings → 自动刷新). Otherwise Legado hits source websites too frequently and may get rate-limited or banned.

2. Keep sources lean. Search only runs across enabled sources; hundreds of dead ones just slow everything down. Prune dead sources regularly (Book Sources → ⋯ → Check invalid sources).

Use Legado only with content you are allowed to access. It is a reader, not a content provider — respect copyright.
